LOAD MANAGEMENT

Our solutions help utilities maximize load management program participation by educating customers on demand response and load shifting, simplifying participation pathways, providing multiple options for participation, and fostering ongoing engagement.

Since our first load management program launched, we’ve installed, provisioned, and maintained more than 2.25 million devices and delivered more than 2,000 MW of load reduction in the process. Because our solution is built upon our core services and support, we can seamlessly integrate our client’s load management programs with energy efficiency and electrification programs for a more cost-effective, seamless user journey and decarbonization experience.
Direct Load Control

Direct load control (DLC) is a load management strategy that allows a utility to remotely reduce the electricity consumption of certain customers during peak periods or emergencies. This effective and reliable legacy program design allows utilities to directly control devices such as air conditioners, water heaters, or pool pumps by cycling them on and off or adjusting their settings. Franklin Energy has extensive experience installing, provisioning, and maintaining switches and smart products for DLC.

Pre-Enrolled Devices

Pre-enrolled devices are ready to be automatically enrolled in demand response programs upon installation. Delivery of pre-enrolled devices like smart thermostats, EVSE, batteries, and more via a marketplace channel helps smooth the customer journey and improve enrollment percentages. Installation services are also available in Franklin Energy marketplaces to further facilitate installation and participation.

Bring Your Own Device

Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) programs provide customers the option to bring existing devices (e.g., smart thermostats, EVSE, batteries) and enroll them into a demand response program. Our solution combines the marketing efforts of equipment manufacturers with our proven techniques to drive customers to a single website to ensure a consistent customer experience regardless of the qualified device a customer chooses to enroll.

Managed Charging

Managed charging can help reduce the negative impacts of EV charging on the grid and maximize the benefits of EVs for the environment and economy. By controlling the time, power, and location of charging, managed charging can avoid overloading the local power distribution grid and reduce the need for costly infrastructure upgrades. Our managed charging solution works with EVSE, telematics, and behavioral strategies to provide control in the method that works best for customers, whether that’s at home on a time-of-use (TOU) or EV rate or using workplace or public charging.

Behavorial Demand Response

Behavioral demand response can help improve the efficiency, reliability, and sustainability of the electricity system by influencing customers to adjust their energy consumption patterns according to grid conditions. Our behavioral demand response solution includes proven strategies that engage, educate, and motivate customers to voluntarily reduce energy use during peak times. Customers are rewarded with financial incentives for reducing their load consistently. No automatic control is included; rather customers are notified via email or text messaging regarding upcoming events and change their use of energy accordingly.
