THE STORY
OG&E, a leading utility serving over 770,000 residential customers across Oklahoma, sought new ways to strengthen community engagement and help customers reduce energy and water use. In partnership with Franklin Energy, OG&E introduced the LivingWise® Program, a classroom-to-home education initiative that teaches fifth-grade students about energy efficiency while empowering families to take immediate action through hands-on learning.
THE GOAL
OG&E aimed to inspire lifelong energy-saving habits while achieving measurable energy efficiency outcomes. The challenge was creating a program that could:
-
Align with state academic standards
-
Be easy for teachers to implement
-
Engage both students and parents
-
Deliver verifiable, scalable energy savings
By bridging classroom learning with real-world action, OG&E and Franklin Energy sought to transform energy education into measurable impact.
THE SOLUTION AND RESULTS
Franklin Energy designed and delivered the LivingWise ® Program across OG&E’s service territory. Each participating student received a hands-on LivingWise® Kit containing high-efficiency measures such as LED bulbs, faucet aerators, and advanced power strips, along with a take-home workbook.
Students and parents installed these measures together at home, completing surveys to track savings and behavior changes. Classroom instruction, aligned with STEAM and Oklahoma academic standards, reinforced learning through experiments and real-world applications.
Through OG&E’s leadership and Franklin Energy’s proven Measure-Based Education® approach, the Oklahoma LivingWise® Program demonstrated how utility partnerships can translate classroom lessons into measurable household impact. Together, the partners advanced community energy literacy, strengthened customer relationships, and delivered scalable results that support a cleaner, more efficient future for Oklahoma families.
